Cleaning your Trap/Gin
Traps should be cleaned to the
minimal extent possible. The dust, dirt and loose surface rust should be
removed in hot soapy water but the temptation to over clean using
abrasive brushes should be avoided as irreparable damage may occur which
would reduce the intrinsic value or collectability of the trap in an
instant.
Some collectors remove all of the oxidised coating of the old
trap with chemicals but for most this removes the patina and character
of the trap, and in my opinion ruins the look of the trap. Remember ~
what is removed cannot be put back; it is far better to leave the trap
as it was found than to over clean it.
